• iSec submit further representations to create a sustainable new village

Further submissions have been made by iSec and Bedfordia in relation to land at Twinwoods Business Park, located at the North of Bedford.

Bedford Borough Council has begun further consultation on its Local Plan with a mix of development options currently under consideration. The latest consultation will run between 24th April and 9th June 2017.

The landholding, which overall extends to some 900 hectares is in the ownership of both iSec and Bedfordia. The property currently comprises the Twinwoods Business park, an ex-MOD wind tunnel and aerodynamics research site purchased by iSec in 2015 and surrounding agricultural land owned and farmed by Bedfordia.

Our vision is to create a fully self-supporting and sustainable new settlement providing up to 6,000 high quality homes, local shops, schools, new business and medical facilities. There will also be a wide range of recreational land, public open and green spaces, extending over 200 hectares.

The cornerstone of our vision for the land to date has been built through extensive technical work, engagement with elected Members, Parish Councils, tenants and immediate neighbours.

Below are the highlights of our soon-to-be-launched vision for TwinWoods as the best new settlement option and a sustainable and innovative Garden Village for Bedford: –

  • Ideally located to meet housing market needs and become a ‘rural service centre’ and new economic ‘asset’ for the Borough
  • An image-maker for Bedford –strengthening the re-positioning of the Borough as an aspirational choice for business and talent
  • Attracting under-35s and an ‘entrepreneurial demography’– providing younger people with the opportunity to put down roots and fully contribute to Bedford’s future economic success
  • Harnessing new ideas and ways of doing things, including superfast broadband, an aspiration to become a free Wi-Fi settlement, a new super cycleway to Bedford, tech/growth hubs for tech start-ups, a state of the art health centre, energy from waste technologies and providing for a wide range of housing including self-build opportunities, flat pack homes, live/work units
  • Creating a vibrant new place with innovation, technology and sustainability at the heart of its design, involving local people fully in the evolution of it
